The map has been generated from the updated historical maps where what kind of factories have been active from 1860 till 1940 (Figure 1) Have appointed patterns for the possible pollutions according to what have been produced at the time. Most probably the topography have changed from time to time by adding more soil to the site, according to the old and present photos.
The land could be de-contaminated by five different methods before constructing the design. Air sparging and air stripping are very similar but different. Air sparging is blowing air into the soil or wastewater to evaporate contaminants in gas form. On the other hand air stripping is basically cleans the groundwater only with a machine called air stripper according to the resource. Soil vapor extraction is,in simple words, vacuuming the contaminated substances from the ground and run through a secondary treatment . Enhanced bio-degradation is being achieved by using particular microorganisms in the soil feed as a naturally occuring process, but Argonne researcher and scientists have discovered injecting elemental and zerovalent iron-iron speeds up this natural process. Finally, the phytoremediation occurs when deep rooted plants and trees (willow, poplar, sunflower etc.) absorbs the contaminants from the ground. (Figure 2)
